Read > Lead > Achieve® is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society. We believe in the power of reading. We believe reading always has been — and always will be — a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. We believe that when one out of four children grows up unable to read, that’s one child too many. For more than a century, we’ve committed ourselves to creating a more literate and productive society. One child … one moment at a time … one life changed forever.
At LA Beta, our members have the opportunity to serve our community by going to a local elementary weekly to help teach students how to read and develope reading comprehension skills. Our members also partake in our annual philanthropy event such as our Arrowspike volleyball tournamnet and Pies Burgers and Phries. The funds raised at these annual events are donated to efforts to end childhood illiteracy! Members also have the opportunity to do advocacy work with our Lemonade for Literacy outreach events where our members work to spread awareness on the importance of childhood literacy. Our chapter is proud to be consistently named a top 10 donating chapter for Foundation Giving across all Pi Phi chapters!
Pi Phi's are proud to experience the impact of Read>Lead>Achieve® by working directly with children in the Baton Rouge community. Through the hands-on work PI Phi's do in the classroom, students and members are able to learn and grow together. Experinecing the joy of reading and storytelling through the children's eyes and imaginations allows for a deeper appreciations for the gift of literacty.
